A Dublin Bay cruise / Croisière en baie de Dublin
For our first family adventure of the year, we took our four little acorns on a boat.
On Holy Saturday, we drove up to Dún Laoghaire (pronounced ‘dunleary’), Co Dublin, and boarded the St. Bridget at the East Pier. The 80-minute cruise, operated by Dublin Bay Cruises, took us to the traditional fishing village of Howth, north of Dublin Bay.
At the end of a week of dreary weather, it was a lovely day to be on a boat.
As the St. Bridget made its way into Howth Harbour, two seals surfaced briefly in the calm waters.
We took a stroll along the quay, before going for a lovely lunch at the Oar House, one of Howth’s many renowned fish restaurants, serving the seafood landed on the day by the local fishing boats.
The other highlight of the day was the journey back to Dún Laoghaire – on the train. After buying fish for our Easter lunch and getting ice cream from Howth Market, we hopped on the 5.15 DART service, much to the acorns’ delight.
It would have been great to explore Howth a little more in-depth, to hike along one of the loop trails, and to stock up on fresh fish. That will be for another time…
