Winter wonderland in Wicklow / Paradis blanc en Wicklow

This morning I could have done the weekly shopping after the school run. I could then have gone home to warm up with a cup of tea and ignored this stunning day of winter in Wicklow. I could have sat down at the laptop for a few hours’ work.

But I would have missed that –
The frosty Powerscourt Gardens in the glorious winter sunshine, with in the background the Great Sugar Loaf as I have never seen it before – covered in snow.

A subdued Mermaid, still recovering from a tummy bug, was my partner in crime. Never mind that she often had to sit when she would normally be running wild. Never mind that our hands got stiff with cold. Never mind that the car nearly got stuck up an icy upland road.

With sunshine on our faces and crunchy frost under our feet, it felt great to be outside.

  • I hope mermaid is better now. What a beautiful place you live in you always seems to visit such amazing locations and as usual your photos do the spectacular scenery complete justice. Simply stunning. Thank you for linking up to #PointShoot

    • Thank you so much for your kind words, Catie. After the mild headache of switching hosts over the weekend (and losing several comments in the process), your comment makes my day.
Mermaid does feel better, she even went back to school today.
      Thank you for hosting #PointShoot

  • I used to drive down every time it snowed to see the gardens! Once I brought my boyfriend (now husband) and we had the place pretty much to ourselves. It was great, never mind that I drove into a wall on the way home!!!

    • I only brought my daughter and we had the place to ourselves too, it was that early on an icy Monday morning. And I nearly got the car stuck in the snow on the road up to Djouce Woods!

  • Beautiful photos. I tried to go up the Slieve Blooms but my 7 seater wasn’t able for the icy roads.

  • Gorgeous photos. I haven’t seen Sugar Loaf for over six months and how pretty does it look there. We managed to finally visit Powerscourt Waterfalls this year but didn’t make it to the gardens. They look so beautiful. Maybe we should try get to them when we’re back in Ireland next Easter! #mysundayphoto

  • What beautiful pictures. We live in the southern part of the States and very rarely get snow. I’ve told my (teens) that were going to head north this year and try a short snow hike to say we did it. Keep up the beautiful pictures! #adventurecalling
