First sea swim of the year / Première baignade en mer de l’année

On Day 9 of 30 Days Wild, I went for my first sea swim of the year.

With the weather in Ireland turning decidedly summery and little planned for the weekend, this sea swim was on the cards for a few days. Besides, the anniversary of my first ever sea swim in Ireland was looming.

On getting out of the car near our local beach, I nearly had to pinch myself. Even after 5 years here, I still find it hard to believe that we actually live here, that this is not a holiday about to end.

It was every bit as expected, and yet extraordinary.
Numbingly cold, and yet deeply enjoyable.
Physically demanding, yet blissfully restorative.

After weeks of calm weather, the Irish Sea was unusually still and perfectly clear.

Go on, jump in, the water is lovely!

Le neuvième jour de 30 Days Wild, j’ai nagé en mer pour la première fois cette année.

Avec une météo des plus estivales pour l’ensemble de l’Irlande, et rien de spécial au programme du weekend, cette première baignade était prévue depuis quelques jours. Et puis l’anniversaire de ma toute première baignade en mer d’Irlande se profile à l’horizon.

En sortant de la voiture près de notre plage locale, je dus presque me pincer. Même après cinq ans sur place, j’ai encore parfois du mal à croire que nous habitons bel et bien ici, que ce ne sont pas des vacances sur le point de se terminer.

Elle fut exactement comme je l’attendais, et pourtant extraordinaire.
D’un froid engourdissant, et pourtant profondément agréable.
Une épreuve physique, et pourtant un bien-être jubilatoire.

Après maintes semaines de calme plat, la mer d’Irlande était incroyablement paisible et parfaitement claire. 

Allez, jetez-vous à l’eau, elle est bonne !
