Becoming a Cool Planet Champion / Bientôt Cool Planet Champion

“On behalf of the Cool Planet Experience I am happy to inform you that your application to the Cool Planet Champions training has been accepted.”

The news came in on Friday afternoon, one hour too late to be included in my weekly newsletter, but just in time for a little celebration with the acorns at the start of the weekend.

I was selected as a Cool Planet Champion for Wicklow.

What this means is that I will receive 2 days’ free training on climate change and communication at Cool Planet Experience, located at Powerscourt Estate, Co Wicklow. The training is provided by two international experts in the field, Dr Cara Augustenborg and Raoul Empey, courtesy of Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project and Climate Talk Ireland.

From the Cool Planet Experience website –
“This unique training will enable the Champions to engage, educate and inspire the public in their own county about how our changing climate directly impacts them and how they can make a real, practical difference.”

Cool Planet Champions, once trained, are expected to go out to their communities to raise awareness about climate change by giving talks to schools and companies, write blog posts, and engage with local politicians and media.

In early October, Cool Planet Experience put out a call for 50 new Cool Planet Champions, for every county in Ireland, to add the 26 existing champions.

With my blog a new member of Leave No Trace Ireland, and now on the cusp of becoming a Cool Planet Champion, I hope to make my voice heard.

Because it is time to #BeTheChange.

“Au nom de Cool Planet Experience, j’ai le plaisir de vous annoncer que votre candidature pour la formation de Cool Planet Champion a été retenue.”

Le message est arrivé dans ma boîte email vendredi après-midi, une petite heure trop tard pour être inclus dans ma lettre d’information hebdomadaire, mais juste à temps pour justifier un petit “arrosage” le soir avec les graines de chêne en ce début de weekend.

J’ai été choisie comme nouvelle Cool Planet Champion pour le comté de Wicklow.

Qu’est-ce que cela veut dire ? Je vais recevoir deux jours de formation gratuite sur le changement climatique dans les locaux de Cool Planet Experience, à Powerscourt, Co Wicklow. La formation est conduite par deux experts internationaux dans ce domaine, Dr Cara Augustenborg et Raoul Empey, envoyés par le Climate Action Project de l’ancien vice-président américain Al Gore et par l’organisme Climate Talk Ireland. 

Une fois formé, un Cool Planet Champion doit éduquer et informer le public de son comté sur le changement climatique, en s’adressant aux écoles ou entreprises locales, en écrivant des articles de blog, et en contactant les élus et médias locaux.

Au début octobre, Cool Planet Experience avait lancé un appel à candidatures pour 50 nouveaux Cool Planet Champions, qui viendront s’ajouter aux 26 existants.

Maintenant que mon blog est membre de Leave No Trace (Sans Trace) et que je suis sur le point de devenir Cool Planet Champion, j’espère bien faire entendre ma voix.

Parce qu’il est temps de rugir pour la planète !
