#MySundayPhoto – Kettle / Bouilloire
On Friday after school, we went on a Kelly kettle adventure at the Octagon, in the Glen of the Downs, Co Wicklow, with my friend Anita and her two boys.
Jedi, by now a dab hand at this, fired it with his fire steel and a bit of cotton wool. Mermaid knows of a spot in the woods where she can find handfuls of dry twigs – perfect to get the flames going!
After a few minutes of blowing on the fire and feeding it through the kettle’s chimney, the water inside started simmering. The brand new green stopper whistled loudly when it reached boiling point.
It wasn’t long before we all sipped some hot chocolate sprinkled with marshmallows brought by Anita.
Fire child
It was getting late and dark but Squirrel was determined to light his own fire. So I helped him start the Kelly kettle again.
By the time he was ready to leave, night had fallen over the Octagon, and we walked back to the car in the pitch dark, with the acorns lighting the way with their head torches. What an adventure!
Quelle aventure !

That Kelly Kettle would solve our major problem when on forest walks. What fuel do you use – cheers Mimi
Hi Mimi,
The best bit about the Kelly kettle is that you don’t need to carry fuel – you make a fire in the base, and you can burn whatever you have to hand, i.e. twigs, sticks, dead leaves, paper, etc.
I hope this answers your question. If you need more information, click on the affiliate link in the post to get to the Kelly kettle Amazon shop. For more information, check out this post https://www.fouracorns.ie/2017/11/05/family-wild-camping-tipi-adventure-ireland/
