By the beach huts in Houlgate / Aux cabines de plage de Houlgate
For the last day of our French summer, we spent a few hours in Houlgate, Calvados, on the coast of Normandy.
This lovely seaside town was highly recommended to us by our host at La Ferme des Vignes (the guesthouse where we’d spent our last night in France), for its stunning architectural heritage. Some 300 incredible villas line Houlgate’s streets and seafront.
But on this blustery day, it was the beautiful wooden beach huts lining the seafront that caught my eye. Some looked bright and cheerful, others in need of a lick of paint, but all, with their orange trim on a white background, made for some delightfully scenic photographs.
And as it turns out, they provided the perfect setting for a game of chase for the acorns.
Pour le dernier jour de notre été en France, c’est à Houlgate, Calvados, sur la côte normande, que nous avons passé quelques heures.
Cette jolie station balnéaire nous avait été recommandée par le propriétaire de la Ferme des Vignes (chambres d’hôtes à Hohot-en-Auge, où nous avons passé notre dernière nuit française) pour son étonnant patrimoine architectural. Quelque 300 villas balnéaires en ornent les rues et le front de mer.
Mais par cette journée couverte et venteuse, ce sont les jolies cabines de plage alignées sur la digue qui ont retenu mon attention. Certaines paraissaient fraîches et pimpantes, d’autres avaient clairement besoin d’un coup de peinture, mais toutes, avec leurs rayures oranges sur fond blanc, créaient une belle toile de fond délicieusement photogénique.
Et les graines de chêne ont trouvé que les cabines de plage faisaient un terrain de jeu idéal pour une partie endiablée de chat perché.
